Credible Opposition: relies on looking further than our own back yard.

It is important to look at all the issues. Groups working across the UK identify the same issues over and over again. If we see ALL the issues then we cannot but be supportive of others with the same aims.

BLAIRMORE/Glen Convinth..near Kiltarlity and Abriachan

The planned windfarm by Druim-Ba Sustainable Energy Ltd, a subsidiary of European Forest Resources, owned by major French investment company 'The Louis Dreyfus Group' is for the building of 23 turbines x 149.5 metres (about 500 feet) high.
Druim Ba Sustainable Energy plans to construct 23 wind turbines within Blairmore forest, which it owns and manages, to the south of Kiltarlity, and has held a series of public exhibitions on its plans. The development is in a forest, near a section of the Great Glen Way walking route between Inverness and Fort William — an issue which has already prompted concern with campaigners who fear the turbines will spoil the route. “People who come to enjoy the stunning scenery along the route would be disappointed to find themselves viewing a power station and miles of hill tracks,” said Pat Wells, convener of the Stop Highland Windfarms Campaign. “The reputation of the Way would soon be tarnished.”

BREAKACHY (Above Teanassie)

Falck Renewables are in talks to place a windfarm at Breakachy Farm above Teanassie

A local community group (Aigas Community Forest Ltd) had been approached by Falck Renewables with regard to the possibility of driving the access road through the forest. AFC website states among other things the following pledge to the local community "we hope to secure a legacy from this generation to the next and hopefully to the many after that. In 100 years time the residents of our community, who can all see the forest from their homes, will be looking out on a massively different woodland."
Aigas Community Forest said NO to Falck Renewables.Well done AFC !!!
At a meeting on Monday 29th November the directors voted unaminously to not only turn down any negotiations with Falck but with any other windfarm developer.

Aigas Community Forest Meetings are open to the 'community' and all are welcome

BALMACAAN wind farm planned near Drumnadrochit
...

SSE Renewables (SSER) is in the early stages of undertaking work to assess an area to the south west of Drumnadrochit near to Balmacaan for the suitability of developing a wind farm with a capacity of up to 300MW.   Following the application and subsequent consent for three meteorological masts these are now installed on site to gather and record vital wind data.  It is our intention to submit a Scoping Report by the end of Q4 2010.

SSER plan to hold two local public exhibitions towards the end of January 2011.  The aim of these exhibitions is to provide local communities with the opportunity to learn more about the proposal, ask any questions and to feed into the project at an early stage of development.  More information about these events will be noted here and will also be advertised locally once dates and venues have been confirmed.

In the meantime if you have any queries or concerns about this proposal please don’t hesitate to contact Pauline Allison on the details noted below.

Media enquiries should be directed to:
